Less than a month after Santikos Family Entertainment Center opened near Interstate 35 in Cibolo, city officials confused the business of a town hall with the joy of going to the movies.

The June 5 town hall was to showcase the city's latest economic achievement, which includes an 87,000-square-foot family entertainment center, a 12-screen theater, 16 bowling alleys and a multi-game arcade.

Town hall attendees received a box of popcorn and a fountain drink and were given seats in a theater where the meeting agenda was projected on a large screen instead of a movie.

Construction projects to manage drainage and future efforts to protect the city's watershed have been discussed. The items were chosen for discussion because residents are concerned about runoff that could affect water quality and cause flooding as a result of increased development in the northern part of the city.

Rudy Klein, Cibolo's director of planning and engineering, spoke about a construction project on Town Creek, just south of downtown.

"The whole purpose of that project is to get rid of a big old flood plain," he said.

Town hall meetings are held for residents to voice their concerns about more pressing issues in their community.

The fun atmosphere at the Santikos Family Entertainment Center has fueled excitement about lighter things, including the center's upcoming film program and the YMCA's grand opening in August.

One of Santikos' summer promotions is the Military Monday offer, which allows active and retired military personnel to purchase a $5 movie ticket every Monday at a Santikos Cibolo location. $5 offer also applies to drinks and popcorn with valid ID.

Another promotion recently announced by Santikos is the $4 Family Fun Day every Tuesday, where everyone can enjoy laser tag, virtual reality and merchandise for one price. Family and friends can purchase pizza, chicken strips, candy and large popcorn and a drink for $4 each.

There is also bowling Monday through Wednesday and $11 unlimited game tickets. Santikos offers free bowling for under 12s with at least one paying adult every Thursday at the Cibolo location. It's a way to say thank you to "brave servicemen and women" during National Military Appreciation Month, according to a news release Friday from the San Antonio movie chain. All active and retired military must provide proof of their service to redeem the offer, the release said.

The entertainment company reopened the Palladium, Casa Blanca and Cibolo venues on May 2 after Gov. Greg Abbott announced that movie theaters could reopen at 25 percent of their capacity. Maya Palace 14, located at 1918 SW Military Drive, will reopen for business on Thursday, May 21st.

Santikos Entertainment is celebrating the first anniversary of its Cibolo location with $1 movie tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the San Antonio movie chain announced Monday. $1 tickets are sold only at the Cibolo Theater.

Cibolo Entertainment Complex opened on May 23, 2019. Along with 12 movie theaters, the site has 16 bowling alleys, more than 40 arcade games and a laser tag arena. The theater is located at Interstate 35 and Wiederstein Road.
